Gardens and other Activities
Gardens:  The Blue Waitui grounds are filled with both
floral and edible crops.  The edible gardens currently
have papaya, pineapple, banana, mango
es, and passion
fruit.   We also have watermelon, pumpkin, green beans,
basil, and tomatoes.  There is also an abundance
of traditional root crops such as cassava, taro,
sweet yam, seasonal greens, breadfruit, and spices
such as hot chilies and lemongrass.  We are in the
process of developing permaculture shade houses
with micro greens and other varieties of veggies not
traditionally found in Fijian gardens.

Activities:  Blue Waitui is situated on a hillside in
the rainforest overlooking Dere Bay and the Koro Reef.
We have beautiful sunset views from both houses
veranda's and the gardens.  It is only a 15-minute
walk to the white sand beaches for swimming and
snorkeling.  You can kayak out to Sand Island
(Nukuciri), leave the boats there, and snorkel to
Shark Rock (Nunavuni).  It is there that you can enjoy
Fiji's rich diversity of fauna in the protected
lagoon, and witness the spectacular hard and soft
corals, and an infinite variety of exquisite
multicolored fish and other sea life.

There are many rainforest hikes, several to hidden
waterfalls and pools, and it is possible to have one
of the local villagers take you on a guided hike to
the highlands and other areas.  Because the mongoose
has not been introduced on Koro Island there is an
abundance of bird life to view.  We have indigenous
parrots, lorries, goshawks, king fishers, and a
variety of tropical sea birds, among others.   Blue
Waitui has many books available to help you identify
the local flora and fauna.

Other options for you while on your stay are to visit
an indigenous village, share a traditional kava
ceremony, attend a church service or rugby match, or
attend one of the many traditional festivities and
events that happen year round.  You may also want to
see or purchase the traditional woven mats or other
local arts.
